I want to choose my recruiter
This statement may sound superficial or a figment of highly
optimistic imagination during recent times especially after the
pandemic turned the world topsy-turvy in 2020. Forget about the blue
collared professionals, even the white collared ones went through an
unforeseen upheaval that completely eroded the credibility of a
vibrant job market. News of hardships borne by migrant laborers in
losing jobs overnight and finding no transport and support to go
back to their home towns, shook the entire country. To add to their
misery, limited savings do not help them to sustain periods of
unemployment beyond a couple of months.
One of the primary reasons why the skilled and semi-skilled
professionals go through various kinds of unemployment is the
absence of a job portal or a recruitment system that works
exclusively for them and not just for the white ones alone. This
sector is highly unorganized and do not bind themselves even in any
social media platforms. Only fragmented local associations in metros
stand up to safeguard some rights but do not create enough job space
to ensure that the members are safely employed throughout the year.
In recent times some start-ups have emerged doing some serious work
for this sector. Creating a database based on skill categories
definitely looks challenging but is not an impossible task if the
beginning is done meticulously with lots of research and ground
level work. Good part is that some actions have started happening as
visible through ads in social media platforms. Validating database,
taking concurrence from candidates for hosting their credentials,
keeping the database updated and growing, including more and more
skill-based profiles in the persona of the portal and finally wooing
worthy recruiters to engage, are some efforts that needs to be put
in mandatorily. The journey has begun and fieldhero.com is one such
portal that espouses the cause of this sector so that one day any
person from this so-called unorganized sector does not feel insecure
about a loss of job, has accessibility to recruiters across the
length and breadth of the country and does not get exploited at the
hands of unscrupulous contractors and brokers. Finally, he gets into
a position to stand up and command “I want to choose my recruiter”.
India would then come of age to take care of the massive workforce
that we call the real heroes of the country.
